Pouring Music From a Cup, Volume 2 If you are a regular reader of Johnson’s blog, “Pouring Music From a Cup,” (formerly The Enchanted Forest, formerly Marcher Seul Sur La Route, originally Pouring Music From a Cup), you know that he writes about some quirky and esoteric subjects, often juxtapositioning two unlikely subjects side by side to illustrate an observation or prove a point. And he always has a point, even if it may not be clear at first. Or at all. You also know that Johnson is a dreamer, with a capital “D”. As in, Dreamer. He still believes in princesses, fairy tales, and happy endings, even though he is slow and filthy from slogging through this cold, hard, dirty world. He’ll tell you that his horse ran out from under him a long ago and is probably pulling a plow in some lowly serf’s field by now, or gelled in a can of Alpo dog food. His sword? Who knows? He says he hasn’t seen it in years. Maybe it was found and beaten into the plough share his tired white steed was pulling this morning. |
This is the second collection of Johnson’s best introspective, controversial, and humorous columns from “Pouring Music From a Cup.” Covering a wide range of subjects from the insanity of mindless bureaucracy to captured and abandoned love to overweight luggage vs. overweight passengers on airplanes, there aren’t many subjects he misses or won’t address directly with a freshly-sharpened pen. Chances are good that he’s taken on an issue that has been swirling around in the back of your mind just as much as his.
